Whenever I try to sell people something made from Zweigelt, they usually start backing away slowly, wondering how they can politely get away from me and just go buy some freaking Merlot and get on with their day.
So don’t think of Paul D’s Frizzante Rosé as Zweigelt, even though it is, and even though Zweigelt is a delicious and underrated grape, think of it as one of the most fun rosés you’ll have this summer.
Frizzante is an Italian term this Austrian winemaker borrowed to let you know that this wine is fizzy – not quite as fizzy as Champagne, but more bubbly than, say, Vinho Verde.
Bottle: 3/5 – If the label and bottle design were just a liiiittle bit better, this stuff would be giving Whispering Angel a run for its money.
Color: 4.5/5 – A little darker than your standard Provençal salmon – it makes me think of strawberry lemonade.
Chugability: 4.5/5 – Tastes like fizzy, fresh, wild strawberries. Refreshing and fun to drink, with the perfect amount of fizz.
Price to Quality Ratio: 4.5/5 – I purchased this for $12.99, a total steal when you remember that horrible ‘ice’ rosé was $14.99! I can’t believe how inexpensive this is.
Overall Score: 16.5/20. Very much recommended!
Goes With: Fried chicken! And a deck chair by the pool. Does anyone have a pool I can use? I’ll bring rosé!
