It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

One of my favorite times of year is when all the fresh, delicious new roses are released.  I’ll drink almost anything pink, but every year I have favorites.  Last year it was all about Anton Bauer’s super citrusy Zweigelt-based rose.  And while I still love that (especially with Mexican food or fish – trust me!), this year I have a soft spot for the quirky, bright-pink rose from J. Mourat.

Based on a blend of Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, and Negrette.  Negrette, a dark, juicy grape, lends a brighter, more magenta color to this juicy rose.  It’s not one of those restrained, salmon-colored roses from Provence.  This is gutsier and bolder, with riper, fruitier flavors, but a really bright, snappy, tart finish.  It’s great by itself, but I think it will really shine with breaded pork chops or fried chicken.  Cheers to long, warm days sipping pink wine!
